The Sandows No. 114 is a chaise longue designed by René Herbst in 1929, reissued by Petite Friture as a faithful reproduction of one of the most significant pieces of French modernism. The load-bearing structure is in painted steel, while the seat and backrest are formed by interlaced rubber bungee cords — the iconic "sandows" that give the piece its name — providing flexible yet remarkably light support. The wooden armrests soften the industrial geometry of the frame, adding warmth to the rationalist spirit of the original design.
The Sandows No. 114 stands out for its ability to combine structural rigour with unexpected comfort: the rubber cords naturally absorb the body's weight, making it equally suited to relaxation or reading. It is a piece conceived for spaces where design plays a leading role — from the contemporary living room to a statement office — and integrates just as effectively in environments that favour quality of furnishing over quantity. Its clean silhouette and restrained colour palette make it a versatile piece, able to complement both minimalist interiors and more eclectic settings.
