Oluce Pascal Double Lighting Floor Lamp, 1983

Next to Sonora and Atollo, Pascal perfectly describes the design aesthetics of Vico Magistretti: pure geometric shapes, combined together to create functional and symbolic compositions. In Pascal, the cone is enhanced by repetition. At the end of the tige, supported by the Pietra Serena base, two upside-down cones are positioned, as if in balance on each other, housing the light sources inside.

However, the use of geometry does not exclusively represent an aesthetic trick, taking on a fundamental practical reason: while the upper cone houses a halogen bulb and acts as a "luminator", the lower one houses two incandescent bulbs and transforms the inclined walls above into perfect reflectors, thus giving rise to ambient light directed downwards. The double independent lift confirms the dual use of this lamp, making its functions autonomous. Pascal thus transforms an upward-emission floor lamp, through duplication, into a reading lamp, without adding anything to the absoluteness of his design.
