Oluce Acrilica 281 table lamp

Oluce Acrilica table lamp, also known as ‘Acrilica’, is an innovative work designed by Joe Colombo in collaboration with his brother Gianni for Oluce in 1962. This model represents a significant step forward in lighting design through the creative use of materials and lighting technologies. Made primarily of methacrylate, a relatively new type of acrylic in the field of lighting, the lamp is distinguished by the use of this material in a thicker, sculptural form, as opposed to traditional thin sheets. The curved shape of the 281, characterised by its significant thickness, allows for highly effective light conduction. Inside a painted steel base is a fluorescent bulb which, thanks to the special design of the lamp, allows the light to travel up through the transparent body and illuminate the lamp head itself. This system not only optimises the diffusion of light, but also creates a fascinating visual effect.
