Martinelli Luce Metafora coffee table

The Martinelli Luce Metafora coffee table, ref. 1979.1, is an iconic low table in glass and marble designed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli, first unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in 1979. The large transparent glass top measures 120x120 cm with a 2 cm thickness and rests on four distinct sculptural elements: a pyramid in white Carrara marble, a cube in black Marquinia, a cylinder in Travertine, and a sphere in Emperador Dark. The four solids are not fixed to the top and can be freely repositioned, each configuration maintaining the table's stability and its unmistakable visual identity regardless of arrangement.

The Metafora goes far beyond the role of a simple piece of furniture: each geometric form carries a precise cultural and historical reference, elevating the table to the status of a collectible object and a design statement. At a total height of 22 cm, it is designed exclusively for indoor use and finds its natural place in a refined living room, where the quality of noble materials and the depth of cultural meaning become defining elements of the space.
