Louis Poulsen VL 56 suspension lamp

Louis Poulsen VL 56 is an iconic suspension lamp designed by functionalist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for the Folkets Hus building in Vesterbro, Copenhagen — founded for the Danish Workers' Movement and opened in 1956, today used as a concert hall. Lauritzen conceived every detail of the building, and the VL 56 is one of the original lamps still hanging in the building's distinctive wooden bar. Both variants — in polished untreated brass and in chromed aluminium — were reintroduced in 2023 with minor technical and aesthetic refinements.

The VL 56 stands out for its refined lighting concept: it emits glare-free direct downward light, thanks to a radial hole pattern around the opening that creates a smooth transition between light and darkness. This design detail produces a soft, enveloping light effect both on the shade and the surrounding surfaces, making it ideal for high-end residential environments. The suspension features a white fabric cable measuring 4 metres in length, with the canopy included. Compatible with an E26-E27 lampholder and a 6 W LED source (bulb not included), the VL 56 has an IP20 protection rating, class II electric shock protection without grounding, and is compatible with the main international voltage standards (EU, AUS, USA, UK, JAP). Dimmer functionality is not supported.
