Fontana Arte Ashanghai table lamp

Fontana Arte Ashanghai is a historic table lamp designed in 1955 by Max Ingrand — then artistic director of FontanaArte — featuring a structure of five glass tube rods held together by a frame and joints in chromed brass. The diffuser in white blown acid-etched overlay glass appears suspended between the tubes, while the upper disc, in sheet float glass, is sandblasted on both sides to deliver a soft, diffused light emission. The interplay of intersecting lines is remarkable: contemporary geometry interrupted by a more classic and refined diffuser, in a balance that has made Ashanghai an enduring icon of twentieth-century Italian design.
