Driade MT2 sofa

MT2, a monobloc polyethylene sofa designed by Ron Arad for Driade. "MT", the acronym from which the entire collection takes its name, is pronounced "empty" in English: this is in fact the characterising element of this product line. The volume is in fact hollowed out and thus presents its interior, finished in two colours. This is possible thanks to a double step in rotational plastic production. First, polyethylene in the colour of the outer shell is fed into the mould. Once this layer is formed, the second colour is inserted and adhered to the first without the two polymers melting in the process, which takes place in high ovens. Once it has been extracted, a five-axis laser cuts the side ends and reveals the two-colour MT.
