Description

Memphis Titicaca is a porcelain vase designed by Matteo Thun for Memphis Milano in 1982, as part of the renowned series of porcelain objects in which the Milanese movement offered an ironic reinterpretation of classical forms. Standing 250 mm tall, the vase is crafted from hand-turned and hand-shaped white porcelain, with kiln-sublimated decals that give each individual piece a distinctive artisanal quality.

The geometry of Titicaca is its most striking feature: a conical form grafted onto a hemisphere, producing a surprising visual effect and a dynamic tension between elements that boldly defies the conventions of traditional ceramics. The choice of white as the dominant colour is far from arbitrary — it is a deliberate device to shift focus from colour to form, inviting the observer to actively engage with the aesthetic experience and appreciate the sculptural composition of the object. An ideal addition to the living room or any space that embraces design as a form of cultural expression, Titicaca is far more than a decorative object: it is a statement that encourages reflection on the evolution of design, with that characteristic touch of irony that made the Memphis movement one of the most original chapters in the history of Italian and international design.
