Memphis Sheraton is far more than a mirror: it is an iconic work designed by Luigi Serafini in 1981 for Memphis Milano, conceived at the dawn of the Memphis movement and now considered one of the most radical and theatrical expressions of postmodern design. Its metal structure features two black legs supporting the body like totemic columns, resting on circular bases that evoke sculptural pedestals. The mirror is enclosed in a thick frame covered in decorative laminate in strong, bold tones, true to the free and provocative language of the Memphis group. Standing 2100 mm tall, 1550 mm wide and 550 mm deep, Sheraton asserts itself as an almost architectural presence — monumental and unmistakable.

Sheraton does not simply reflect the image of those who stand before it: it stages the very act of looking and being looked at, turning the object into a visual and conceptual short-circuit. Paradoxical, surreal and ironic, it openly defies gravity and every aesthetic convention, bringing a near-scenographic dimension to any living room or representative space. With Sheraton, Serafini creates a work that transcends function to become a statement: a portal to the absurd, where design bridges imagination and matter. In 2024, this extraordinary piece was featured in a retrospective at the MART in Rovereto, further confirming its timeless cultural and collectible value.
