Memphis Santa Ana is a suspension lamp by Memphis Milano, designed in 1983 by Matteo Thun — the son of ceramists — as a work that defies design conventions. Its shape evokes the image of a flying saucer, a mysterious and fascinating nod to UFO sightings, translated into a clean and contemporary silhouette. The ceramic shade, crafted with artisanal mastery, plays on the contrast between the simplicity of its lines and the complexity of the repeated sphere, creating a rigorous geometry that seems to float effortlessly in space. White, the only colour chosen, enhances the materiality of the ceramic and gives the piece an unmistakable visual strength, bringing to each creation a balance between tradition and innovation.
