PH 3/2 Special Edition 2022 designed by Poul Henningsen.
Louis Poulsen launches PH 3/2 The Water Pump in 2022 in a special edition with chrome stand and opal glass. The floor lamp is sold in a limited number of 2800 pieces. Distributed exclusively at Danish resellers.
Louis Poulsen introduced a new reading lamp in the 1950s. The lamp was designed by the innovative and renowned Poul Henningsen. The reading lamp was called The Water Pump because of its adjustable arm, which could be moved up and down like the handle of a water pump. The water pump head can also be tilted so that the light can be directed where it is needed.
The Water Pump carries PH's well-known three-screen system from 1926, where most of the light is directed downwards and emits glare-free light. The three screens are made of mouth-blown opal glass, polished on the outside and sandblasted on the inside. This gives a soft and diffused light, which spreads in the most beautiful way in the room.
The base, stem and arm of the lamp are made of chrome, which gives a sophisticated and elegant look to the floor lamp. The light switch can be traced back to Poul Henningsen's 1927 table lamps. The on / off button is also designed in chrome and is located at the end of the arm.
Keep in mind that the glass is a mouth blown three-layer opalescent glass, where smaller air bubbles up to 3mm can occur.
The story of Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen's (1894-1967) long collaboration with Louis Poulsen began in 1924. Poul Henningsen was one of the first to recognize the importance of shaping light and in 1958, as a follow-up to his revolutionary three-screen system of 1926, designed the PH 5 commuting. Poul Henningsen's pioneering work in lighting theory, which deals with structure, shadows, glare and color reproduction in combination with man's need for light, is still practiced by Louis Poulsen. Poul Henningsen is Louis Poulsen's most important lighting designer and his ideas form the basis of the company's lighting philosophy. A cultural personality who, in addition to light, has spread satire and social criticism beyond the magazine. The collaboration with Louis Poulsen continued for the rest of Poul Henningsen's life.
Concept - The luminaire was designed on the principle of three reflective screens. Most of the diffused and low beam light is directed downwards. The angle of the light can be adjusted via the arm. The white shade and the glossy outer surface of the screens, together with the chromed lower part, make the light emitted soft and diffused.
