The Guframini Cactus is a miniature version of the iconic Cactus coat stand, designed in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello for Gufram. This creation became a symbol of radical Italian design, a current that challenged traditional aesthetic conventions, bringing provocative and playful elements into homes. The original version is a large piece, around 170 cm high, designed to be a sculptural coat stand; however, Guframini reduces its scale, with a height of around 70 cm, transforming it into a more accessible decorative object, but still with great visual impact.
The Guframini Cactus faithfully reproduces the appearance of the original version: it is made of polyurethane foam, a material that creates a unique, irregular and spongy texture, similar to the surface of a real cactus. This particular finish, together with the unusual shape, gives the object a playful and surprising character that catches the eye and adds a touch of irony to any environment.
The Guframini Cactus represents, on a small scale, the provocative and non-conformist spirit of radical Italian design. It is an object that transforms its surroundings, bringing with it a touch of irreverence and a sense of lightness and fantasy, making it an iconic piece loved by design enthusiasts all over the world.
