Flos Mayday Indoor portable or table lamp

Mayday is the lamp that designer Kostantin Grcic designed for Flos in 1999, with the goal of “being able to be useful whenever you need light.” The lamp is inspired by work lamps, also called emergency lamps, which with a hook can be placed anywhere. Mayday is not a table or floor lamp, nor is it a pendant or wall lamp. Somehow Grcic has designed an object that is all of these things together, going beyond any typological definition. In fact, it is not designed for a specific place but for expected and unexpected situations: in the garage to work, hanging it from a tree, on top of a ladder, etc.

Mayday is made entirely of recycled polypropylene by injection molding, without the use of glue in assembly to make it completely recyclable, and has a hook that allows it to be used anywhere. The opaline diffuser with a characteristic conical shape and translucent, diffuses a warm light while the power button is located on the hook-handle, which is the element that determines the flexibility of the design, as is the 5-meter-long retractable electric cable.

For its incredible versatility, Mayday was awarded the 2001 ADI Compasso d'Oro, the most prestigious award in the design world.
