Flos APPS wall signs

Flos APPS is a recessed wall sign luminaire designed by Jorge Herrera for Flos Architectural, inspired by the concept of "flying signs". A single integrated 4 W LED generates two simultaneous lighting effects: direct illumination of the sign itself and a soft, diffused perimeter light available in three colours — white, orange and purple — creating the visual impression that the sign is floating in front of the wall surface. The recessed format requires a 400x400 mm cutout, with an inner width of 228x228 mm and a recessed depth of 255x90 mm, ensuring a refined and architecturally seamless integration.

APPS is designed for collective indoor environments — such as office buildings, hotels, hospitality venues and public spaces — where signage must be functional without compromising the aesthetic quality of the surroundings. A key design feature is the ability to replace the sign panels without removing the installation frame from the wall, making it particularly well suited to spaces that change purpose over time. Available configurations include directional symbols (90° DIR, 45° DIR), restrooms (WC Ladies, WC Men, WC), bar, restaurant, elevator, info and stairs. The integrated LED operates at a constant current of 350 mA — external driver not included — with a colour temperature of 4000 K (neutral white) and a colour rendering index of CRI80. Insulation class III and IP20 protection confirm its suitability for indoor installations. APPS has received several prestigious international design awards: IDEA 2013, Good Design Award 2012 and Red Dot Award: Product Design 2012.
