Flos APPS Emergency wall signs

Flos APPS Emergency is a recessed wall emergency signaling luminaire, designed by Jorge Herrera for Flos Architectural, built around the concept of "flying signs." With a single integrated 4 W LED, the fixture simultaneously produces two distinct lighting effects: direct illumination of the sign itself and a soft, diffused perimeter light that creates the impression of signage floating in front of the wall. The recessed installation — with a cutout of 400x400 mm — integrates seamlessly into vertical surfaces, minimising visual impact while ensuring maximum sign legibility. The LED source emits at 4000 K (neutral white) with a CRI 80 colour rendering index, delivering clear and consistent visibility. The IP20 protection rating and insulation class II confirm its suitability for indoor applications.

Designed for indoor environments such as offices, commercial spaces, hospitality venues and public buildings, APPS Emergency addresses safety requirements without compromising the aesthetic quality of the space. The power supply and emergency device are built into the unit, providing an autonomy of 4 hours at 80% luminous flux in emergency mode. The system is particularly advantageous in environments whose purpose may change over time: signs can be replaced effortlessly without removing the installation frame from the wall, ensuring flexibility and swift updates. The luminaire is available in a range of configurations to cover the main safety requirements: 90° DIR, 45° DIR, Exit Right, Exit Left, Exit, Fire Extinguisher, Fire Hose and Fire Alarm. Non-dimmable, APPS Emergency maintains a consistently stable and optimised light output at all times. External dimensions are 400x400 mm, with an inner width of 228x228 mm and a recessed depth of 255x150 mm. The project has received major international accolades, including the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2012, the Good Design Award 2012 and the IDEA 2013 prize, confirming a design approach equally devoted to function and form.
