DCW Mantis BS1 B floor lamp

A praying mantis hovering in the air, Mantis BS1 B. A precious, graceful and intriguing floor lamp that becomes a luminous object. It was 1951 when the designer Bernard Schottlander created this large collection of lamps, also inspired by the dynamism of Alexander Calder's works of art. The details of its stature and manufacturing immediately catch the eye, starting from the curved and elongated diffuser that recalls the head of the mantis up to the base in this case in a circular version that supports the central long-limbed rod, to which is added the traditional counterweight wanted by the designer, for a perfect game of balance. The frame is very thin, black as the base and diffuser, made with a ductile and at the same time resistant material. The lamp can be rotated horizontally by 360° and vertically moved in 4 positions by 20°, as Mantis has been brilliantly designed with essential fulcrums for simple and immediate movement. Optimal light for reading and studying, for atmospheres in living rooms and dining rooms, for corners with armchairs and coffee tables, in both residential and hospitality sleeping areas. Like an acrobat in mid-air, Mantis expands in places, rises and becomes a poetic object that invites you to relax and dream. Made of aluminum and steel with a rotational mold, the German designer takes his cue and aims at the symmetrical and asymmetrical in opposition to each other, through the helical movement. A design product studied in every detail with strong inspirations.
