Designed in 1961, Galapagos reflects Bruno Munari's quest for clarity, essential forms, and functional simplicity. The frame consists of two square sheets of ultra-transparent glass that enclose the image, supported by a satin-finished stainless steel base. The absence of a traditional frame makes the photograph or artwork appear suspended within the transparent structure.
This elegant construction highlights Munari's approach to design, where the reduction of superfluous elements improves both functionality and visual impact. The clean geometry and refined materials transform the frame into a discreet object that emphasizes the image it contains rather than the structure itself.
With its balanced proportions and understated aesthetics, Galapagos blends easily into different environments, offering a timeless way to display photographs, illustrations, or small graphic works while maintaining a sense of lightness and transparency.
