Artemide Vitruvio LED Floor Lamp in Blown Glass

Vitruvio is a family of lamps in which mechanical intelligence becomes an aesthetic expression. The central elements of the project are the thin structure and the blown glass diffuser. An ingenious mechanism (inspired by watchmaking) allows the insertion of three movable metal rods inside the sphere, thus forming the structure that supports the glass globe. The rods open inside the diffuser and, thanks to the extreme precision of the geometry and the balance of the weights, they support the glass sphere. Even the diffuser makes aesthetics and function coincide: the transparent glass is blown with a shape dictated by an optical intelligence; the horizontal lines in relief prevent direct vision of the source, limiting glare and spreading the light evenly.

Glass and structure are two free elements, blocked by a simple and easily reversible mechanical gesture, the optical system generates a comfortable light with very high efficiency and the diffuser is obtained from a single process. Elegance and poetics are also in this projects distinctive traits of Atelier Oï's work, capable of combining and synthesizing materials, visions and technologies.
