Artemide Flexia Flexible Sound Absorbing Suspension Lamp

Artemide Flexia is a flexible sound-absorbing suspension lamp designed by Mario Cucinella for Artemide Architectural, born from the meeting between Artemide's deep lighting expertise and the designer's commitment to sustainable design. Its name and form are inspired by papiroflexia, the Japanese art of folding origami paper — an aesthetic reference that translates into a structure articulated in two distinct sections, crafted in PMMA, aluminium and polyester. The sound-absorbing section — built with recycled fibres, an outer fabric made from 100% PET bottles and an inner panel derived from waste materials — controls reverberation by absorbing sound waves reflected in the environment. The transparent emitting surface, animated by Ernesto Gismondi's patented research on light quality, generates a diffused direct and indirect light emission that is uniform and comfortable.

Flexia is designed to enhance the quality of spaces where visual and acoustic wellbeing is essential. It is particularly well suited to work environments, thanks to its compliance with UGR <19 standards, which ensure glare-free lighting at workstations — making it an ideal solution for the office. The flexible wings feature an adjustable rotation mechanism at 0°, 15° and 30°, allowing precise calibration of the light interaction with the surrounding space. The light source is an integrated 65 W LED with a colour temperature of 3000 K (warm white) and a CRI of 90, ensuring excellent colour rendering. The luminous flux reaches 3637 lm in direct emission and 2838 lm in indirect emission, with an average rated lifespan of 50,000 hours. The lamp is dimmable and operates at 220–240 V, with an IP20 rating for indoor use. Multiple modules can be combined to compose bespoke luminous and acoustic landscapes, built on perfectly balanced principles of light and sound. Flexia is available in Orange, Light Blue and Green.

Flexia has received the Archiproducts Design Awards 2021 and the "2021 Special Mention for Sustainability", awarded by a dedicated jury of eco-design and sustainability specialists.
