70 years of history, family, design culture, industrial products, new materials and innovative technologies.
Founded by Giulio Castelli in 1949, in those years Kartell took its first steps in the realization of that design that would become the flag of Made in Italy. In 1988 the company was acquired by Claudio Luti who comes from the fashion world. The sensitivity gained at Maison Versace with the love for perfection and taste, is transformed into a new life for the brand. Luti calls to himself designers and architects such as Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Antonio Citterio, Ferruccio Laviani, Piero Lissoni, Patricia Urquiola, Mario Bellini, Alberto Meda and Vico Magistretti, thanks to which the products that will soon become a symbol of the brand are born.
The turning point for the company took place in 1999 when it became the first company in the world to use polycarbonate to produce furniture items. From this moment the company develops and deepens the theme of transparency, which has made it unique and original, continuing the research in the study of surfaces and shapes. Alongside the habitat division, Kartell reopens the lighting division, writing a new chapter in the history of light design.
Over the years, Kartell has won a series of important international awards, including nine Compassi d'Oro. Founded in 1999, the Kartell Museum, custodian of the history of the brand, in 2000 won the "Guggenheim Enterprise & Culture Award" as the best business museum.
