Driade MT1 armchair

Driade MT1 is a monobloc polyethylene armchair designed by Ron Arad for Driade. The acronym "MT", from which the entire collection takes its name, is pronounced empty in English — and this is precisely the defining concept of the line: the volume is hollowed out to reveal its interior, finished in two distinct colours.

This distinctive two-tone aesthetic is achieved through a double-step rotational plastic moulding process: first, polyethylene in the colour of the outer shell is fed into the mould; then a second colour is introduced and adhered to the first without the two polymers melting during the high-temperature oven process. Once extracted, a five-axis laser cuts the lateral ends to reveal the characteristic two-colour effect of the MT1 armchair. Thanks to the strength and weather resistance inherent in polyethylene, MT1 is equally suited to indoor and outdoor use, and makes a striking statement in the living room. With dimensions of 83 cm in height, 73.5 cm in width, 74 cm in depth and a seat height of 42 cm, MT1 is a generous and enveloping seat that asserts its personality in any residential or contract setting.
