DCW Mantis BS3 table lamp

Mantis BS3, thin frame and counterweight-guided functionality, the graceful and intriguing praying mantis that becomes a luminous, historic object. It was 1951 when the designer Bernard Schottlander created this large collection of lamps, also inspired by the dynamism of Alexander Calder's works of art. The details of Mantis immediately catch the eye, starting from the switch placed on the curved diffuser and extending up to the circular base with a round counterweight. The frame is very thin, black as the base and diffuser, long-limbed and important, made with ductile and at the same time resistant material. The lamp can be rotated horizontally by 360° and vertically moved in 4 positions by 20°, as Mantis has been brilliantly designed with essential fulcrums for simple and immediate movement. Optimal light for reading and studying, for atmospheres on side tables and furniture of various kinds, in internal places like an acrobat in mid-air Mantis expands in places, refined and timeless. Made of aluminum and steel with a rotational mold, the German designer takes his cue and aims at the symmetrical and asymmetrical in opposition to each other, through the helical movement. A design product studied in every detail with strong inspirations.
