Samy Rio studied woodwork for four years before joining the National School of Industrial Design in Paris where he began studying industrial design for five years. These two formations enable him to work together with industry and crafts methods, which he perceives as complementary and indispensable to each other. He graduated from Ensci les Ateliers in October 2014 with the congratulations of the jury thanks to a research project about the industrialization of bamboo tubes. In July 2015, he won the Grand Prix of Design Parade 10 at Villa Noailles with this project. He has since made several residencies at the Cirva in Marseille, the ceramic city of Sèvres, and the NTCRI in Taiwan. It also marks the beginning of his collaboration with the galerie kreo. Through these different residences around glass, ceramics, wood and bamboo, he continues to explore these links between crafts work and industry, traditions and new tools in order to question both the way we produce objects and objects themselves.
