Born in Taurianova, Reggio Calabria on 7 December 1966, he graduated from the University of Genoa-Faculty of Architecture in 1992, and is enrolled in the Order of Architects of Genova since 1994, of Île-de-France since 1995 and of the Swiss Architects since 2014. Alfonso Femia has taught Architectural Design at the Kent State University of Florence, at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara and Genova. Founder of 5+1 in 1995, he creates 5+1AA in 2005 and 5+1AA Paris in 2007. He wins numerous international competitions and is published in international journals. He is visiting professor in the main Italian and international Universities. In 2015 he founded "500x100 Talk, the city as an instrument of dialogue", a meeting and confrontation place on the theme of the city. He develops a "research on matter" that leads him to collaborate on design projects with international companies, and with AF design he develops themes related to ceramics, light, wood and glass. With the artist Danilo Trogu he develops a "Mediterranean bestiary" in ceramic, which animates the Docks of Marseille, the OGR of Turin and the residences of Asnières-sur-Seine in Paris. In 2017 he transformed the 5+1AA denomination into AF517 or "Ateliers Alfonso Femia", and created "L'Entre Deux", an in-depth format on the metamorphosis of cities. He loves odd numbers, the South and a crew of girls and boys who have believed in this adventure since 1995 aimed at exploring and learning about the world through the architectural project and the encounter with cities, all with a smile and a new partner of travel "the balæna and its star".
